International talent headed to Taranaki for new darts tournament
Darts has made a steady rise in popularity over the past few years and the Taranaki Darts Association are hoping to capitalise on this, hosting an international tournament in July.
The tournament, which would be held from July 1-3 at the Devon Hotel, would feature teams, pairs and singles categories.
President of the Taranaki Darts Association Barry Daley said with the growth in interest and participation in darts in recent years, it was timely for the Association to consider hosting a high calibre tournament.
The Association had already locked in one of New Zealand’s top talents, with Cody Harris having indicated he would attend the event.

The tournament would cater for singles who wish to compete for New Zealand Darts Council ranking points, as well as having a competition for pairs and a serious event for teams of dart players.
All event entries have the opportunity to win prize money, with the prize for the best team being $6800 and a total of $17,000 up for grabs over the three days.
There has already been considerable interest from overseas, with a number of players from Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand having already confirmed their attendance.
The tournament had also received interest from teams across Asia, as well as in Spain, Italy and Australia, with invitations to the event also set to Mongolia and Brunei.
